As I have reached the halfway point of my time at Martha’s Table this summer, I find myself reflecting on all of the things I have learned, the amazing people I have met, and the experiences that have inspired me and overall strengthened my love for public interest communication.

At Martha’s Table, I serve as the digital communications intern, where, from creating digital content to writing blog posts and highlighting community programs, I learned that communications is far more than posting on social media; it is about amplifying voices, building trust, and helping people understand the impact behind the work.

The biggest thing that has warmed my heart this summer is being able to witness the impact firsthand. While the majority of my days were spent behind a computer handling day-to-day tasks, I also got to be in the community volunteering with staff and positively impacting the families we serve. The smiles on these families’ faces reminded me why being authentic in everything you do matters so much.

The staff I work alongside here at Martha’s Table has been nothing short of amazing. Their high energy and commitment to serving others created an environment where I was encouraged to learn, grow, and contribute. I gained valuable professional skills in digital communications while also learning lessons about leadership, teamwork, and service that will stay with me long after this internship.

As I reached the midpoint of my internship, I learned that I am carrying a sense of purpose, and this summer reminded me that communications has the power to bring a plethora of people together to create everlasting change.

Every opportunity, challenge, and connection has aided in my overall love for not just communications but community impact as well. I’m excited to continue to grow and accomplish more in the upcoming weeks and continue the incredible work here at Martha’s Table.
